Reader & EMV management

Purpose: Reset the handheld's card reader and recover it when the connection drops.

When to use this: The reader stops responding, shows Connection Lost, or times out asking for a card.

Reset the reader

Open Device Settings with the unlock gesture, then:

  • Init EMV: re-initialize the reader. Use it when the reader isn't picking up cards.
  • EMV Pad Reset: reset the pad (under the DSI actions). A quick reset that's safe to try first.

Recover a "Connection Lost"

If a transaction is interrupted, the device shows a Connection Lost modal explaining the reader was disconnected. Work through it in order:

  1. Tap Retry to reconnect. This clears most cases.
  2. If it doesn't reconnect, tap Restart App.
  3. If it still won't reconnect, reboot the device.

You may instead see a Remove Card modal, take the card out of the reader, then tap Retry.

VP3300 / VP3350 readers

On an IDTech VP3300 or VP3350, if a payment times out the device tells the customer to tap the card on the back of the device, where the reader sits. Have them tap on the back rather than the front and run it again.

Verify

  • The reader returns to its ready state and accepts a card.
  • A small test sale ends in Transaction Approved!.
