Triage: Pull & pay with a handheld
Purpose: Work the problems that hit pay-at-table, where a check is rung elsewhere and a server pulls it up on a handheld to pay at the table. In the app this is Checks mode.
When to use this: The handheld pulls up an already-open check and takes payment on it, rather than ringing the order.
In Checks mode the unlock gesture changes: long-press the faint "…" in the bottom-left corner instead of swipe-swipe-tap. See the gesture page.
Issues specific to this mode
No checks are loading
What it means: The device is in Checks mode but the open-checks list is empty or won't fill. Usually the revenue center is wrong, a server filter is hiding them, or the device lost its link to the point-of-sale.
Fix:
- Open Device Settings (long-press the "…" bottom-left) and confirm Checks RVC # matches the revenue center the checks are rung under. See Pay-at-table mode.
- If a server sees none of the checks, check My Checks Only and turn it OFF to show every open check for that revenue center.
- If checks from more than one revenue center should appear, confirm they're listed under Checks Revenue Centers (in order) and that you tapped Save Revenue Centers.
- Tap Reload, then Back To POS, and reopen Checks.
- If the list is still empty, confirm the checks are actually open on the point-of-sale for that revenue center, and that the device is on the network and bound to the right workstation. See Setup & workstation binding.
- Still stuck: send the device logs with Upload SAF / Upload Logs and check the workstation's VitaPay log.
Verify: Open checks for the configured revenue center appear, and one can be pulled up and paid, ending in Transaction Approved!.
Issues that can happen in any mode
- Can't connect to reader: the Connection Lost modal on the handheld's reader.
- Reference transaction not found when voiding or refunding a check payment.
- Services not starting on the workstation the device reports through.
